Overlanding is self-reliant overland travel, often lasting for extended lengths of time (months to years), to remote destinations where the journey matters as much as the destination.
Taking the road less traveled (quite literally), overlanders seek out some of the most scenic and untouched frontiers, with travel often spanning multiple countries, sometimes even multiple continents.

As of 14 March 2016, the longest driven journey is 723,852 km (449,780 miles) and was achieved by Emil and Liliana Schmid (Switzerland) who travelled across 185 countries in the same Toyota Land Cruiser in a journey that started on 18 October 1984 and is still ongoing.car.
