Simon Young is an English-born Pitcairnese politician. Since 2023, he is currently Mayor of Pitcairn, the first non-native Pitcairn Islander to hold the position. He previously served as Deputy Mayor from 2009 to 2013.
As of 20 April 2023, there were 36 residents on Pitcairn.
In 1886, the Seventh-day Adventist layman John Tay visited Pitcairn and persuaded most of the islanders to accept his faith. He returned in 1890 on the missionary schooner Pitcairn with an ordained minister to perform baptisms.
During the Second World War years, the island population numbered 170, almost all of them Sabbath School members. A peak was reached in 1956 with the island population at 120 and SDA church membership at 113.
