Brenda (70 years old) will be my fantastic driver and guide thoughout my stay on the island
Mr Turpen is the only survivor of the five Galapagos tortoises brought to the Pitcairn Islands between 1937 and 1951. An ordinance was passed to protect Mr Turpen, by the Island Council; anyone harming him is liable to 60 days imprisonment.
Aside from "Bounty Bay" which is the main port aera, the Pitcairners and authorities have created another "port" (Water Valley Harbour), in a diffrent side of the island in case that prevailing winds and waves would make it impossible to lauch the long boat from the main tiny harbour (that we used).
Seeing Brenda walking barefoot all over the island, I decide to follow suit...
"Adamstown" is the original village and was for a long time the main settlement.
With the availability of "quads", islanders currently tend to build new homes further away from Adamstown to have more privacy and a better view.
Down to the port area
Huge bags of gravel have been ordered and are being unloaded as there is not enough gravel on the island for the various construction projects (roads and houses)...
During the 4 days that we are on the island the
Silver Supporter is constantly idling in large circles
as the sea is TOO DEEP to drop an anchor...
